I have years of experience as a Carer which I gained during most of the past 10 years working with different clients.
Thanks to all these experiences, I have developed strong and solid caring competencies as well as interpersonal skills. As my experience has grown, I have come to understand the signs that someone requires a further medical intervention, mental health support or simply someone to talk to as they are a little lonely. I am passionate about giving back to the older generations and I feel that every placement offers me a little more wisdom or food for thought in return.
A significant proportion of my previous patients were not ambulatory, and I therefore developed the skills (and strength) required when dealing with patients for whom moving about is a challenge.
A second particular area of expertise is working with patients with dementia and Parkinson.
Treating my clients with dignity starts with helping them cope with their mental as well as their physical challenges.
I am a happy chatty person who likes to focus on my clients care. I am happy to assist and participate in activities that my client may enjoy.
I prepare food according to the client’s permitted dietary needs and keep track of medications. I encourage my clients to go on daily outings, even for a walk around the block or shopping, and accompany them to doctor appointments.
In some of my previous placements, I provided pleasant companionship, shared the client’s hobbies (reading and going to the library, crossword puzzles, assisting with gardening, chess, etc.), and maintained the client’s physical cleanliness and that of his/her home.
In addition to the above, I also carry out light housekeeping and also help out with laundry when needed.
I am a reliable and reserved worker, able to build up a strong and trustworthy relationships with different clients.
